The Kano State government has organised a mass wedding for 1,500 couples drawn from all its 44 local governments.

The mass wedding is slated for today, Saturday, across all local governments of the state.

A statement signed by Abbar Anwar, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abdullai Ganduje, on Saturday revealed that N20,000 would be given by the state government as a dowry for each bride involved in the exercise.

The state is expected to spend N30 million for the exercise.

The statement said beds, side mirrors, wardrobes and mattresses would be provided for the couples.

“Sets of cushion chairs would also be given to each and every couple, which includes 3-Seater chairs and other side chairs. Window blinds and plastic carpets will also be provided. This would go a long way in serving as relief for the couples after the proper marriage takes place.

“New clothing materials, popularly called ‘Shadda’ would be provided for all the would-be husbands, so that they appear as happily wedded grooms, showcasing their happiness to families, friends and well wishers,” the statement added.

According to the statement, the government had earlier constituted a committee to find a way of organising the exercise.

Kano Government has sacked all Permanent Secretaries in the state, in line with the present government’s reformation resolve.

This is according to a statement from the Head of Civil Service on Thursday. According to the statement, the decision is in line with the Kano Government’s decision to “Vigorously pursue/implement the reform initiative embarked upon since its inception”.

Meanwhile, these are the eight new Permanent Secretaries recently sworn in by President Buhari in Abuja.
The short ceremony reportedly took place at the Council Chamber before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

The new permanent secretaries are, Oluwuyiwa Enitan (Osun), Mohammed Dikwa (Borno), Ajani Madaline (Delta), and Festus Yesufu Dawodu (Nasarawa).

Others are Nnamdi Maurice (Imo), Bakare Wadinga (Adamawa), Babatunde Lawal (Lagos) and Ernest Afolabi Umahi (Edo).

According to Vanguardngr, while congratulating the new permanent secretaries, President Buhari who reminded them that new oath taken comes with a lot of responsibility, charged them to help the government overcome its problems through the implementation of its policies.

President Buhari charged the new Permanent Secretaries to be above board in their functions and expressed his commitment to the welfare of the civil service.

“After the survey, we will package the data collected and forward to the government and it is expected to serve as a policy direction for government in the next four years.

“So, during the survey we will focus on two main issues: Almajiri/street begging and drug abuse, especially among the youth.

“Even though the street begging prohibition law exists, it is not being enforced.

“So also we have laws that regulate the Almajiri school system but they are not being enforced as required either.

“We are not against the system or what they come here to do but we are concerned about how it is being done,” he said.

Magaji called on the media to enlighten the public on the importance of the survey as government it was being conducted in the interest of the state and the country at large.

“No society can develop by allowing its children to continue to roam the streets in the name of Almajiris because it is a breeding ground for social vices,” he said
